A debut middle grade novel.

Coming in 2025

Book cover of Robot And Red. A nanobot and a red blood cell inside a blood vessel.

Robot is a nanobot with a serious attitude problem. He’s grumpy, selfish, and grossed out by the human body. His single goal in life—solitude. He dreams of spending his days in a dry, quiet place far from the mess of living things. But when an accident traps him inside the bloodstream of a middle school student, Robot’s only goal is to escape before his battery runs out!

Glitches take over Robot’s functions, drain his power and force Robot to work.  Robot navigates the bloodstream alongside a cheerful, relentlessly optimistic red blood cell named Red. Red has a habit of making friends with anyone, no matter what kind of cell they are.  He is fascinated by the world around him and sees beauty in the very things that make Robot gag.

As they travel through blood vessels, making oxygen deliveries, they face bullies, germs, and immune cells. With his energy draining and no way to stop the glitches that take over his hardware, Robot must find a way out of the body before his system completely crashes.

Catherine Kimbril

The author and the idea

Along with her cats and dogs Catherine shares her home with Mango, an adopted pig. Catherine’s love of animals lead to her studies in zoology where she turned textbook pages about cells and biological processes into funny and interesting characters in her mind.

Robot and Red bloomed from her imagination.  Together, the grumpy nanobot and the happy red blood cell live full lives navigating hardships and friendships in a race against the clock.

A middle grade novel for ages 8 - 12. This fictional world will keep readers of all ages laughing aloud while introducing biology terms and concepts.

Robot and Red is the first book in a planned series involving the same characters who journey through different systems of the human body.
